Default Black Skirt Tetra???

My black skirt tetras fins look like they are breaking apart. Is that normal?? Or what could be wrong? I have two and they both seem to be doing it. I looked up care on them and i have been doing what it has been saying...So what could it be?

why don't you have more of them they like to be in groups hence the name "schooling fish". Most tetras don't school as tight after a while in an enivorment that they this is safe.

what are your water parameters... ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH, Temp??? How big is the tank? how long has it been set up? Any other fish in it? Could possibly be fin rot, melafix is the med you want. They do tend to want to school 5-7 tetras if space allows.

I would have more i just dont have any more room for them. Im hoping to get a bigger tank and then they can have some more friends. I have a ten gallon tank and i keep it at a set temperature and i also have air bubbles comming up as well. All of my fish seem to be doing better since i made the changes. I have a blue gurami, 3 zebra danios, a rainbow fish, and these two tetras.

you should have bought more tetras instead and you seem overstocked.

yeah its slightly overstocked... but I'm more worried about the cycle and fin rot... she said she was going to get a bigger tank which is always a good thing!

I would get some melafix and treat it just in case... itll help the fins heal if nothing else... also I would upgrade soon like you said you were going to

My 20 skirt teras have ripped fins after they have spawn. But I doubt that your lonely black teras would do that, especially in a overstocked tank.
