i have never owned a frog before, but i would like to get a few.
my aunt had 2 dwarfs before in a regular betta vase filled with water. i am wonderin what there requierments are, can i put one in my 2 gallon betta tank and call it good, or do the frogs need more than that? can they really live in nothing but water with no ground or anything to go on? (sorry i couldent find the right section to put this in )

ADF's are aquatic frogs and they do not need any land to sit on.. they spend their whole lives underwater. As far as putting him in with your betta, I think that depends on the betta. Just yesterday I moved my moms in her betta tank and her betta just about ripped off one of the froggies legs! Im guessing since the betta had already established the tank as his, no froggies were allowed.

You could take the betta out and put the frog in, then re-introduce the betta. That might serve to make the betta think the frog is part of the territory. It will just depend on the fishonality of your betta. Some are laid back and will tolerated tank mates, others won't.
However, frogs are messy and slow to find their food. You will have to make sure that he gets his fair share of the grub. I think the recommendation for ADF's is 2.5 gallon per frog. But, if you are diligent with water changes and removing any leftover food, he should do alright.

my LFS store that some frogs are illegal in maine but she wasnt sure, she said that they used to sell a whole bunch of frogs but this was a little while ago. petquarters said that there are only a handful of frogs that are still legal in maine (but i have never seen her there before so how much does she really know??) i really would like to get a ADF but i cant find anyplace that sells em. is it illegal to go out of state to buy frogs? mala what type of frog was that? |

I have a couple of these guys and they love hanging out on/against aquatic plants. They use them to rest at different heights in the water since otherwise they would just float at the surface or sit on the bottom... it adds variety, and they like it. I wouldn't risk them with the betta I would hate for one to get mauled! I would put one maybe in your 2 gal tetra/barb tank (but I hear they do put out an excessive amount of waste and shed skin). Mine love freeze dried bloodworms and usually are eating about 10 min after I put the food in, long after my other fish have their dinner. They cruise the surface and snag bits stuck to the side of the glass or lost among the plants. They would probably eat fry so I wouldn't put them with your guppys if you are going for babies.

I think the rule of 2.5g per frog should be kept. I wouldn't put one with a betta in anything less than a 10g. In a 10g it would have more room and wouldn't be cramped up with the betta who may or may not like something added to his territory.
You really should upgrade your tank soon. Tetras and cherry barbs don't belong in a 2g tank, especially altogether. I would upgrade before thinking of adding something else. ADF's are hard to feed. You have to feed them frozen bloodworms, freeze dried food, or live food and you have to put it right in front of them because they won't go looking for it. I think they really should be in a tank by themselves unless you are going to take the extra time to make sure they eat. If in a tank with tetras and barbs they may starve to death. I would wait until you could get a bigger tank. I think you could have 2 ADF's in a 5g tank by themselves, or maybe 2-3 in a 10g with a betta. |

I'll back up what other have stated here. I would definetly put a plant or two in here so he hide just in case. Mine hides in there so much once I thought it died cause I didn't see it for so long. I have a 10 gallon with a female betta in it and the frog and the betta don't seem to care about eachother since they tend to stay outta eachothers way.

i looked at some tree frogs today a petquaters.
the had a 20 gallon long with two dividers in em, 1 part tree frogs, 1 part lizard/ gecko (?) and 1 other part i colden t see the reptile. but the tree frogs were escaping into the lizard part of the tank, so lizard and frogs can go together! they were lizards or something, small kinda active |

Different species shouldn't be mixed..........shame on them for doing that.
My Whites' are my favorite of all my pets (well, my exotic pets). They're just too cute and you can do some really cool things with their enclosures. They're easy to keep too.

They shouldn't go together......I suppose you could do some research to find compatible species but the general rule is no mixing...... Probably amphibious creatures who eat similar things and won't eat each other, need similar lighting/humidity/heat requirements, and similar space could be exceptions.
Does that make sense? Petstores have no clue usually and will just toss any thing in wherever...... Many frogs will eat anything that will fit in their mouth so you have to be careful about that too. And......in the wild, there's plenty of room for everyone to coexist. In a small enclosure/tank, there isnt room enough to mix species and have everyone live a comfortable and healthy life.
