Or at least they breed like it!! I just caught 9 more babies. The rest will have to be fish food..... I'm not a pro here, I don't breed to sell and I only have the one 30 gallon and the 5 gallon snail/fry tank. I guess I could take my cricket farm out of the 10 and switch them with the 5....... but I have 25babies now and I don't have people to take them all. I need to get tougher and let them just get eaten I think..... I had a mollie and a swordtail both give birth within a day of each other and 9 is all I am going to catch. I still haven't checked with my lfs to see if they'll do any trading with me..... I only plan to keep ONE of these babies, the one swordtail with the 9 lives. Did I tell you guys he jumped out of my net the other day and landed on my TILE floor?? Jeez, nothing kills this little bugger, I HAVE to keep him! I think I'll name him Felix or something, some cat name (9 lives reference).....

Most stores prefer to take them when they are a bit older.
I think the real thing is to break down and buy a 500 gallon tank for the living room so you have room to expand in the future. You can always try the free for the cost of shipping - no refunds method. But even then fry dont ship very well. Or check with any local fish club and contact the leader and tell them free fish to anyone in their club. (limited quantites) |

Dave, you always make me laugh..... I agree, I think the very best scenario is the 500 gallon, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
I have adequate tanks to let them reach adulthood, thats no biggie.....I planned to keep them that long anyway. Hopefully my lfs will work out a trade with me but if they won't, I'd let them just have them if they'll take them! I'd do the free fish/pay shipping thing too...... Maybe when they get big enough I'll try that.

I like Morris, the nine lives cat, but hello, GARFIELD, is the way to go.
I also think you should upgrade. A 500 gal tank would look nice in anyones living room, just take out the couch and put bean bags in front of the fish tank. My dream. I have the same problem with my Bristlenoses. One spawn with over 100 fry. My LFS will not take them until they are 1.5" and I have them in a 10 gal tank. I sold a bunch on Aquabid and had a few people contact me on the side for local pick up. So now I am down to a manageable number, but I have not seen my male BN is days. I think he is up to no good and guarding eggs again. I don't think I will be able to go on vacation this year if he keeps supplying me with grandkids. |

Hm.......think you all can sign a sort of petition to convince my husband that I need a 500 gallon tank? I like bean bags so that'll work for me. Thats funny about your BN. All those "grandkids"...... You guys are making me LOL!
