Default Red Tail Black Shark

My RTB has a faded orange tail in the morning and later in the day is becomes a bright and vivid orange. Any ideas why?

How long have you had the fish? If it's a new fish and the conditions don't suit it's needs, it's black body and red tail will fade in a few days.
Providing it with a heavily planted, soft/neutral aquarium, and hiding places will darken its colors.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded:
Serrasalmus
Tetradon
(figure eights and dwarfs are the
exception).

I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families:
Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers.

Is his tail faded when the lights just turn on? Many fish lose most of their color when the lights are off at night.

I've had him for over a year, so it's not culture shock. But yeah, when I turn on the lights in the morning, he is faded. I guess he just needs his coffe before hebreaks out the bright colors.

Sorry yeah, I didn't read the question properly. My red finned sharks used to do that in the early hours. They soon wake up.

They lose their colors when they sleep.
