Lightbulb Stocking planted 65 gallon

Hi Everyone....

I am in the process of restocking my 65 gallon (250 liter) planted tank.

We had 1 Big Parrot fish, 1 Big Bala Shark, 2 big clown loaches and 1 big rainbow shark together with some other small fish. All the big fish I got from my grandfather with the tank (they were about 7 years old)

Well on Saturday I had to bite back the tears... we decided that it was time to take the big fish to the lfs. I felt bad keeping them in a small tank when they could be in a bigger tank at the lfs. Anyway... the parrot fish is in huge tank with about 15 other parrots, the bala shark, clown loaches and rainbow shark are in a huge tank with other bala's and clown loaches. Best of all the owner of the lfs liked them so much that he was going to keep them in the big tanks and not sell them so no worries that they will end up in a small tank!

Well to get to the point..... we are now going to restock the tank. Currently left in the tank are:
1 small pleco, 1 spotted talking catfish, 1 CAE, 1 female blue gourami, 1 rainbow shark and 2 albino tiger barbs.

I would love some ideas from you guys as to what fish I should get now. We are definitely getting about 10 neon's and I would like some more gouramis if possible.

Thanks for the help!

If you are going to keep the barbs, I would up the school to atleast 6. 10 would be even better and would keep their aggression between the group.

Neons are great..but they are slow...or atleast mine are. I think the barbs and gourami(s) would beat them to the food. You could try it, but I would go with another type of active fish..maybe danios? Or black widow tetras?

A couple more gouramis may work. I would get another female and a male. Keeping the number odd will help with any aggression.

I am a sucker for bottom feeders, so I suggest getting some loaches. I have yoyos in my 55g and they are so entertaining. I've heard they are aggressive, but mine have never hurt any of the other fish. They do chase my angels every now and then, but never hurt them.

Barbs will beat neons and gouramis to food, but the neons are way faster than gouramis. In a tank that size, neons would be fine. You might want to throw in some flakes and pellets the barbs will be preocupied with the flakes when you throw in the pellets the neons and gouramis will get to them.
