Default Metal & Snails

Hey everyone,
I am going to divide an oddly shaped tank for my bettas to live in. I have bought the "craft" (makeshift) dividers and cut them to the right size. Because I am housing bettas I cut two out for one division, that way, if one falls, the other *may* stand a chance.

Anyway, I've always had snails in with my bettas and wish to continue doing so. I have gotten some suction cups with little metal hooks on them. I have heard before if you want to get rid of snails to put a penny into the water with them, I just want to double check to make sure the metal wont hurt my snails or my bettas before I put it into the tank.

It shouldn't although they may rust, I have used those before and ended up going to plastic covered paper clips because the suction cups just would never stay.

The deal with the penny is the copper content which isn't enough to kill snails, but copper like in meds is definitely enough to kill snails.

I have some plastic coated paper clips but how do you get those onto the tank (acrylic in my case) without perminant measures?

Metals other than high quality stainless steel (completely non magnetic) don't belong in tanks IMO.

When I used my home made dividers which were made from plastic canvas, I unfolded the paper clip, hooked one side into the plastic canvas and the other side over the lip of the tank, buried the bottom in the gravel and all was well.

I think instead of dropping a penny in your tank, you should put a piece of lettuce in.
