I have a 29g tank
I have tried an air stone and a air curtin, both result in the waters surface being over run by bubbles. I have to shut the pomp off to give the water a chance to clear so I can feed the moors. Is there any way to help heep that from happening. My tank is set up and at optimal levals. I just would love to know how to tell if you are getting good oxyen to the fish. Between the filter churing the water where it reenters and bubble curtin how rough should the surface water being moving to to indicate good or bad? Last edited by BJPE; 07-29-2006 at 05:14 PM. |

What kind of filter do you have? If you have a HOB (hang on back) filter, you may be aerating the water enough and won't need an airpump. If you want the extra aeration, you can buy a gang valve that you hook the airline to and can adjust the flow. They are really cheap (~$2) and you can get them at most pet stores.

ok well I have 6 small Black Moors and I don't know stats as far as numbers but according to a color code test strip I have ideal water condtions
Yes it is a HOB Aqua tech filter I have the valve already though and am using it. In looking at info on fish it says they will sometimes gulp air around the surface if they are not getting air good. The fish in my tank swim to the surface from time to time but they don't hang there all that long |

I wouldn't worry about the bubbles, but I would take an airline and get a sponge filter. I use them on all my tanks, whether I have any other filter or not. They are an excellent way to do biological filtration.

Wow 6 goldfish in a 29g, I'd recommend getting rid of 4 of them as the common rule for goldfish is 20g for the first goldfish and 10 additional gallons of water for each additional goldfish, so if you wanted all 6 you'd need at least a 70g tank.
