I only had a half a day at work yesterday so I got a chance to go get all the shooping I needed to do for once before 7 at night. On my way back from wal-mart I remembered there was user store that someone told me had a lot of kids stuff there.
Well they didn't have a whole lot of kids stuff so I started, head out when sitting right next to the door is a brand new 55 gl tank. The price was only 30 bucks! No leaks either, someone must have user it for a snake since it came with mesh tops. Plus I have a canister filter for a 55 gl so that works out perfect. Granted I still need the hood, heater, gravel, stand, but still this saved me atleast a 100 bucks on getting a new tank. Made my freaking day |

Don't you just love it when you get a killer deal like that? Found my last tank & stand sitting on top of the dumpster! That's a great deal you got!

I'm curious here, someone told me a long time ago that once you have reptiles in a tank you shouldn't use it for fish again.
Is this true, or am I the victim of ignorance? |

Never heard that before but I doubt it would be a good idea to switch the tank over without doing some major cleaning due to the things a snake could leave in a tank. I am sure its notthing that Simple Green can't kill.
By the way simple green is like the best stuff ever to clean your tank, been using it for years. Its non-toxic so you don't have to worry about it killing the fish after you fill the tank up. |

Well, just try to clean the tank with water. I think that the old owner of the house will do no harm to the new ones.
Hope that's helped

That is a day worth a do over in a good way. Kind of makes you want everyday to be like that.
Ive switched tanks between rats and fish with no problems. Some people worry about the urine getting into the silicone and causing ammonia problems later but I have had no problems with it. |

That's awesome! One thing, though. Are you sure it is an aquarium and not a terrerium? If it has an integrated screen top, it might not be made to hold water. Check the thickness of the glass. I would fill it up outside the first time.

The screens are not built on to it, its a normal all glass tank.

I keep reptiles as well as fish and it's been my experience that the tanks are built to entirely different standards. a 55 gal reptile tank isn't designed to support the more than four hundred pounds of water and decorations that go into a 55 gal fish tank. I'd definately second hawk's recommendation to fill it outside first, just as a safety precaution.

Once again its not a rep tank, its a all glass tank that some turned in a rep tank. I have kept reps myself and know when I am looking at a water sealed tank and a cheap rep tank. Thanks for the advice anyway.
