I also bought a 1/2 Gallon tank, which came with artificial rocks, a little plant, water conditioner and tropical fish food. I didn't have enough money to buy more food (I bought the fish after a Stitches shopping spree
Oh, and I know this is kinda irrelevent, but his name is Nemo |

You should bring the fish back, they should be kept in a minimum of 20 gallons. There really isnt much you can keep in a 1/2 gallon. Since you obviously did not cycle the tank the fish will die very soon if you dont bring him back, especially since you dont mention having a filter and it is a very messy fish. Before you buy a pet you should know how to take care of it. If you have any questions post them here and I (along with anyone else here ) will try to answer them

agreed. You can't keep goldfish in small, unfiltered tanks. It's a death sentence.

What they said....
Seriously, goldfish need a 20g tank minimum for one and then 10g for any additional goldies. If you can't get a 20g or larger, then I would take the goldfish back or find him a nice pond. Also, like said above, there really isn't much you can put in a 1/2g....its really too small for fish.

here is the problem i see..
1. She was told that this was all she needed by an employee. Unless this is the dumbest person on the face of this earth, i move to option #2 2. Didnt know what she was doing, as from her saying she didnt have the money for goldfish flakes, which, in my store, runs 1.99 for the cheapest cup, wasnt looking for the best interest in the fish, but what she could house the fish in with what money she had. Sadly, i see this all the time. I dont know how many people will try to buy.. say a baby oscar and try to keep it in a 5 1/2 g, or put a goldfish in a damn betta bowl.

i don't even know how small a half gallon container is in terms of dimensions...
A lot of people will often buy goldfish with the misconcenption that they're a great first pet or a beginner's pet, but little do they know that in actuality, dogs are easier keepers than are fish... I have three fancy goldies in a 55 gal, and even that requires a great deal of effort on my part to keep the water stats stable. Goldfish need superb filtration, good nutrition, and plenty of oxygenation to stay healthy... otherwise you're just going to be struggling with diseases like ick, fungal and bacterial infections, stunted growth, or simply death... |
