Anyone else have an Emperor 400 filter that makes a mess?
Let me be a little more sprecific. I have a recurring drip on the front edge of the cover , close to the bio wheels and where the water exits. Over time, a drip develops on this edge, and begins to drip onto the glass aquarium top, forms a small puddle, and gets moisture on the light fixture. I can scrub the underside of the lid, and this seems to work sometimes, but only briefly. I think I may just have a get a narrower piece of glass, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if the were able to remedy it without changing the glass top.

No but I made a beginner's mistake with my mom-in-laws 55gal tank and put one of these on it rather than having 2 filters. She has the plastic hoods that come stock with the tank. The filter sticks out so far that I had lift the light strip out of the little slot that is made to hold it and still if you open the hood on that side, the light strip gets jammed against the filter and cuts off the light. No water problems tho.

I've never had that, once though I had water on the floor that I tracked to a emperor that was sitting too high in the front (because of the tanks rim) and dripping water out over the back. The pad was clogged with algae and the flow out the front was not keeping up with the pump. I replaced the pad and leveled the filter and its been fine since.
It sounds like you might have water dripping off the inside of the lid. Since the emperor has a spray bar that keeps the biowheels moving, the water could be coming from there. You can change the angle of the spray by turning the ends of the black tube that goes across the filter. You could also try reducing the flow by moving the gray button on the top back of the filter (you are supposed to push it down for feeding and pull it up later, but you can leave it down.) |
