Default oscar "looks dirty"

I have a black oscar. had him since he was tiny and now is about 4 inches. the problem is that his black color seems to be fading and there is a certain dark grey/brown taking over his body? i am wondering how to fix or cure this and if this is a disease, what kind of disease is it. thank you for any help. I want to make sure he will be ok.

A picture would help! What are your water parameters and stats?

do you have a testing kit? i would either get a bigger tank, i reccomend atleast a 55g for one oscar. or, take the oscars back and get smaller cichlids, maybe yellow labs, socofoli, red zebras, or keyholes, kribensis, something that wont be putting so much waste into a 29g. what kind of plecos do you have, because they are poop factories as well

if that is what you want , that is fine by me, just be sure to keep up on your waterchanges, i would do atleast 20% once a week. once you test your tank, you will know if there are any other problems with the water

With that many fish I'm surprised you havent had problems before... more than likely it could be a bacterial infection... or stress... or bad water parameters. You should be doing water changes every day on that tank... Its WAY overstocked as you stated. And it will only get worse as they get bigger.

Thats CRAZY, I feel bad for the oscars. There is no way they are going to grow right or be healthy and happy in this tank for any amount of time.
Take some of the oscars and the plecos back and get a 55G for ONE oscar. Or get rid of all and start over. I can see one oscar in a 29G for awhile but 4!

well that won't be enough room for the fish you've got now... I'd keep one or two oscars in there and THATS IT.

first of all you need a bigger tank(about 150 -200 gal.) second there is nothing wrong with your oscars mine does the exact same thing it just depends on the mood he/she is in
