For ottos, and other algae eaters. How do you get em' to sink? I tossed in a piece of cucumber and it floats at the top, also the Ottos arent very interested in algae pellets or cucumbers. I have algae on the tips of my plants in the tank but Im still a little worried about the ottos getting enough food.

I stick a tee spoon through the slice, and remove it afterwards.

Veggy clip or plant weight works well. If you microwave the cucumber for a few seconds it will sink easier as well and stay down with a few pepples on it. But I prefer the veggy clip. Easier to remove the uneaten part.

I just stick 1/3 in the pebbles and rotate in the morning.

Put it in a teacup with a little water and into the microwave for 1 minute then run cold water on it and drop it in the tank. I do it everytime!!

If you use a rock or pebbles, make sure they are big enough that your fish won't eat it. My cats would gladly take the pebble too.
I blanch mine (whole veggies) and then freeze it, let it defrost, then throw it in. Seems to sink better after it has been frozen and I always seem to have it ready, I don't waste veggies that go uneaten(don't know if I said that correctly, LOL). I bought 1 veggie clip and it broke the first time i tried to use it, so I won't buy another one, LOL. But veggies tied to rocks work just fine. You can make it a certain rock, so you can just pull it out afterwards and use it again. I tie fishing line to the rock(permanently tied) and stick the veggie under it. Or you can leave a piece of line hanging off and tie it to that. |
