Default 40 gallon tall

Somewhere along the line I heard that 40 gallon tall tanks were actually 55 gallon tanks??? is this accurate?

The reason I ask is my sister in law called tonight and asked if I wanted her 40 gallon tall. ****She doesn't have it fully stocked. ****1 4-5 inch Pl*co and a 2 or 3 catfish that are about 2-3 inches. ****I believe that is all she said she had. ****She has had those fish for several years though. ****I am not sure the type of pl*co, guessing just the standard and I am also not sure on the type of catfish. ****

Thanks for any insite of this subject or ideas for future fish.

Also, says Junior member cuz my password and id were lost and i havent visited in a month or two... so hello to all, I'm back again!

Scuba Kid- there is a superstition that if you use the E in pleco your pleco will die.

I have no idea the dimensions on the tank... haven't gotten it yet... she just called yesterday to ask if I wanted it or not.

Funny how a simple quesiton about a tank can evoke such crazy controversy on my simple spelling of pl*co without the E. Silly people. Thanks for asking though Scuba Kid, I asked that question before I owned a pl*co myself.

I just wonder if people are as rude to others when they are face to face as they are to complete strangers on the internet???

Anyhow, went to LFS today and they had a regular 20 gallon, a 20 gallon tall and a 20 gallon long. I think they were all 20 gallons just different dimensions, so I will assume the same for this 40 gallon tall. Guessing it is just not as long or deep and it's taller instead.

Getting back to the original question............
A 40 gallon tall is just what it says. 40 gallons. If it were 55 gallons they would call it a 55 gallon tank. They would also sell a LOT more than they do.
