No problem. Mine is heavily planted with 4 cardinal tetras, 1 neon tetra, 6 blue rams, and other fish. The Rams only bother each other for territory. A male and female will likely get along with each other best and likely spawn.

You could stock a Ram but these fish usually prefer to be in groups of more than one. It should still work if you were to get two or three as the current fish do not usually account for all of the 1 in to 1 gallon ROT. I have four Rams, four pencilfish, and an unknown quantity of endlers in a 20 gallon tank and have no issues. The fish are thriving but this is because of the heavy planting in the tank and regular water changes.
Thanks Rob |

Humpy, I used to have only one ram(now over a year in age) for almost 6 months after I lost the female. There are 4 now as my lfs has recently gotten them in stock. One is actually fine and my ram never has issues after all.

You shouldn't have a problem.....GBRs are bottom dwellers and the fish you currently have are all mid and upper swimmers......
I might consider getting two as some people say that they like being in pairs (though I have had both single rams and a pair, and I would have to say that the ones who lived on their own seemed happier than the pair did...but perhaps that's because I had two females, rather than a mixed sex pair). Be sure to have a lot of hiding spaces and incorporate some sinking food into your feedings. |
