I've decided that when I get enough money I'm going to restart my 20g L and take my guppies to the LFS. I haven't decided on planted or not but here are some of my ideas.
1. A cichlid that would be happy in a 20g L 2. A school of Tiger Barbs and maybe something that would get along well 3. Or my third idea was to raise something that'll outgrow this tank and sell it when it gets to size ie: Bala shark, Angel Fry etc. Which of the three would you go with and how would you stock it? Or any other ideas |

I would plant the heck out of it and get a pair of dwarf German Rams.

I've had them shipped in before without any problems.

I found an awsome cichlid store here in state but all of the names aren't in the common name, and they're tough to find info on such as final size

RC has an excellent suggestion.
You might could have a single Firemouth in a 20 long, not too sure though. I'm really starting to like Apistos (even though I don't have any yet)

Personally, I wouldn't go with cichlids because they will outgrow the tank. I would go with maybe fruity tetras and maybe some rosy barbs...

Not all cichlids will outgrow the tank. Rams, Apistos, and Kribs are just 3 types that will not outgrow the tank. Fruit tetras are dyed and thats a horrible process for the fish. I don't suggest anyone keep them. They are more susceptible to disease and usually don't live out their full lifespan.

I vote for kribs in that 20 long....you could leave the guppies in, and the kribs will take care of some of the fry

Apistos is one of the Tanganyika the guy mentioned at the local cichlid breeder along with a few others. I still haven't found them on their website but it looks like they can set me up with some cichlids which will work well in my tank. It'll take me about a month to get this going before I have the money, the empty QT tank to offload the guppies long enough to completely redo the 20gL and to heavily plant the tank. I'm not sure what I'll be getting but it'll be dependent on the breeders recomendation, looks like they've got quite a cichlid setup here localy.

Has anyone heard of Shellies? This is what I'll most likely be getting once I can set up a tank to accept them.
