I cycled a new tank at work with pure ammonia, (not hard to come by since I work in a lab), it seemed to take forever! (It didn't really, but it always seems that way, doesn't it?)
I did give it an extra two weeks after the nitrites went down, just to be extra careful. I ordered two dwarf puffers from That Fish Place, and they arrived via Fedex about a half hour ago! They seem happy, active and healthy. They're adorable! They are TINY. They're so small, you can't see them in the phone-cam picture, but I thought I'd take one for posterity. They're now acclimating. It's nice to have little mouths to feed again. I haven't had a puffer in a couple of years, and I am such a puffer fan.

A few more plants would have allowed you to put the puffers in right away

They're in now and are doing spendidly so far. Both are happily cruising up and down the glass, and one appears to be playing in the bubble wall.
I do have to do a little more landscaping in there. It's rather dull. But I'll wait till the fish are settled and eating. |

I'll put some rocks and plants in front of it. I'd rather have it down like that. It's only a 10g and that heater will come out of the water if the level goes down much!

Good luck with the anacris, my 29g is planted with that and it seams every day I'm reburying another piece of it. And the part that sucks is when you replant one you disturb and loosen the others. Congrats on the puffers

Those puffers, they are the size of the rocks in the tank and they already have really big personalities. They're eating really well and have established their tank rules. They are not all that fond of each other, and one keeps getting all up in the other's grill. One is more quiet, and one is an instigator.
These are awesome fish, I would highly recommend them. It's nice to have fish again. |
