Default Have to get rid of 20 gallons :(

I have to get rid of my two 20 gallons. My mom claims that when i clean them and refill them, the water bill goes up $30. Thats like saying a shower costs $30. I will still have my two 10 gallons, but i cant have tiger barbs anymore . It stinks, but im only 14, but when im 18, im getting some bigger tanks, maybe a 55 gallon with like 20 tiger barbs .

ask to see the bill, and last months bill.

Now I don't pay for water where I rent, but I doubt my 600 gallons of water increases our water bill too much because the land lord hasn't gripped to me about it

My water bill isnt much more than that... If in fact the water bill has gone up that much, I would be more inclined to start checking for "running" toilets, leaky faucets etc...

Oh yea.. just to add, be careful how you approach the topic because even if shes not telling the truth, shes still your mom! Even it was untrue, if you make her mad she could put her foot down and say fine get rid of them all. Remember, you catch more flies with honey

That sucks.

You should talk to her. See if she'll let you earn the money to keep your tanks. I doubt they cost $30 a month in water but if you count the electricity and the water I'm sure it's probably in the area of about $20 to $30 a month. You could cut a few lawns around your neighborhood and earn the money to keep your tanks.

I know there's others around here your age that have to earn the money to support their tanks.

Thats Bull. Two twenty gallon tanks will make your bill go up by about 2$. I have at least six times the water gallonage you do, still do 45% water changes every week or two, andMy bill has gone up five to ten bucks tops.

My water hose was left on for a whole night (by accident) and our bill was only like $5 more.I have a 20 gallon that I do 25% weekly water changes on and it uses way less water than my showers every month. It's like 25 gallons a month thats like 1 bath I doubt it's $30 lol.I'm not suggesting you argue with your mom and get in trouble but I would ask her to prove how it cost that much money a month for your water changes.I give my mom and dad $10 a month for the water and electricity my tanks use but they tell me I don't have to so it can't be costing that much.Since they make me pay for everything else lol don't turn 16.ever.

Oh pa shaw. Your parents just don't want all the fish tanks everywhere... trust me. Before I did saltwater, my dad said the salt would erode the glass to try and scare me off.... to this day I laugh at it.

I have about 7-8 fish tanks, I use salt with most water changes.... and THEN it's about 30 per month because of the bucket of salt...

I know how you feel though. My room and all needs to be clean otherwise my dad has a fit- he almost threw my fish tanks out once... not the best thing ever. Everyonce and a while they threaten to limit my tanks also... i'd die without my fish! lol.

My water is somewhere around $3/1000gal for the first 5000 gallons and then it goes up to $7/1000 or so. I can't imagine it's too far off of that anywhere that isn't serious dessert or used to be one.

A very high price for water would be one cent per gallon. I see no need for you to get rid of your aquarium.

That is a shame. I love Tiger Barbs. I have a 20 gallon just like you, but with 7. They are so fun to have and i hope you can keep them at your grandpas. We don't have a water bill so i can use (or waste) as much water as i want!
