Default new setup! does it look ok? pics!

first here is my current 10g
4 harlequins
6neons
1 chinese algea eater

this is my new 38g
the back of the tank/ornaments will be filled with more gravel, the drift would will be almost even with gravel behind it, and the lava rocks will be a bit higher as well as the centre ornament. and then the back will have enough gravel for a few live plants.

the only concern i have is if when i raise the ornaments/gravel, especially the centre one, the inlet for the filter will be hidden behind it. just wondering if that will be ok? or should i modify the inlet.

i have the lava rocks, and the driftwood, the fake piece was from my 10g, cost to much to get rid of,

keep in mind, im still filling the back with alot of gravel, so it looks like the ornaments are coming out of it, and the tank will have plants and dark blue backgroud

yeah, you should try and make them look natural, but other than that, nice setups. Love the blue gravel, have in one of my 10 gallons

I don't think you need to make it look more natural. Sometimes a fantasy tank is just as cool! I think the setups look fantastic! Get some plants(fake or real) in that second aquarium and it will be truly impressive.

I think they both look good. I have a castle in my 29 gal. The 38 is REALLY looking nice. Love the drift wood. Keep us updated with pics.

what about now,
i filled it with more gravel

do i use the fake one? or not? i think the fake one adds some color to it.

the idea is to have more caves/ hiding places on the back and have an open space in the front. plus the back or corners will be planted, not sure yet if i will use real/fake plants though

The original question was about the intake and it being hidden. So long as it's not blocked I don't see a problem. For tank appearance, I give a two tumbs up for the lava rock to right, artificial in the middle, wood to left. I really like that, and think it looks "natural". I don't care about accuracy, I just like something that visually flows and looks good. For me, and maybe me a lone that really works particularly with your planting plans.

Care to fill us in on what plants you plan on using and stocking?

not sure about the plant names yet,
but they are really common tall and bushy i guess.

as for stocking.
i have 5neons 4harlequins 1algea eater which will be going in. all pretty small

i want larger fish, but anything large may end up eating my neons.

so i was thinking silver dollars, but they can eat my plants
then i thought angel fish, which may attack my neons,
bala sharks will outgrow my tank
discus are to much work...

so im left with gouramies, sword tails, maybe clown loach,

and suggestions?

The Gouramis would be a nice addition, or Swordtails. The loach would eventually out grow your tank, since they are a schooling fish and can reach 12".

I think my Swordtail does less damage to my plants than the Dwarf Gourami, atleast I have not seen her doing very much nibbling.

I think you could find a rainbowfish species that are quite a bit bigger than your harlies & neons, and yet small enough to find your tank a comfy home. For example, I think Boesman's rainbow will do, and they are quite spectacular when full grown.

Update

still not finished, 1/2 way done my hood, still have to wire everything, and paint

will this be to bright? lol its 2 30w t12's

i think once i get a black background it should be ok,

black gravel would look awsome with this much light! the light gravel reflect a bit to much
