Oscars are basically sexually monomorphic. Meaning there is no real visual difference between male and female. I have heard there is a way to tell by the fish's vent.

Well...in that case....I hope you and he have a reeeeeaaaaly big tank with lots of filtration. Oscars can get to be 12 - 14 inches and require, IME, a minimum of 100 gal tank for one or two of them. They don't reach sexual maturity till they are about 1 yr old. Once they do, they can lay up to 1000 eggs at one spawn.
If you've got the resources...go for it....I love Oscars...just don't have the room for a tank large enough or the money for one.

Wow that's a great deal. Sounds like your friend is well set up. As long as he has really good filtration on that tank...should be good. Oscars can be messy fish, but require clean water to stay healthy.

A 75 should be ok for a grow out but bigger would be better. And again....make sure you have more than adequate filtration and do very regular water changes.

Have fun!!! = )

That's dudette...thanks. LOL
Your welcome. And yes...they excrete quite a bit of waste. they also like to redecorate your tank...moving tank decor from one end to the other. the one I had at work at one time used to drag a silk plant back and forth for entertainment. They are like underwater dogs. Lots of personality.
Don't feed them feeder fish!!! Just a heads up...they aren't a good diet. Oscars are omniverous and need a varied diet. A mix of vegetable based as well as protein.
