Yep!

Fish change their colors all the time. If you were to go look at it late at night it would look different than it does by day, for example, and the same is true with most fish. Moving a fish to a new tank is a surefire way to get it's colors to fade.

yeah, fish work like us, when we move, we usually have to get used to it, so do fish, he was just getting to know the place, and he was probably crammed into a small tank at the lfs

I hear that particular species looks darkest over dark gravel.

Also, the food you feed them affects their overall color too, but in your case it was most likely stress...

In a couple of days, it will probably be the color it should be...it might take about a week...I agree with Fishboy93, the food can affect their color.

I have a Red Tailshark, and I find that if the water temperature drops below 72, the sharks whole body will change colour to a clowdy Grey and the tail will look almost pail orange. I try to keep the temp the same to keep my fish looking their best. It also keeps their stress level low and that is a must for health fish.

When I brought my Cherry's home from the pet store she said they would loose their color, but instead they got more colorful. I guess they like it here better than in that crowded tank! And my Pleco went through about 5 different colors before he finally settled, which was really funny because I was trying to make sure he is what they said, and I couldn't ID him with all the changes! It took me a week to know his actual colors.

My red tailed shark did the exact same thing.
It was VERY dark black, with a rich colored red tail. Once I got it home it turned a little grayish with a pale pink/almost clear tail.

Within about 36 hours, it was right back to it's good old self!

Do you have a good hiding place or two for the shark? That'lls make him feel more comfortable, and comfort = happy/colorful!

Also, vary the foods you give him...I know mine doesn't like to feed from the surface, so make sure there are sinking foods that make it down to him.

FWIW, my silver tip tetra's and red tailed shark will "lose" some of their color even with just a simple gravel vac/water change....usually they're back to normal within a few hours. These are the first fish I've had that would lose and regain their colors in such a short period of time.
