good luck finding homes for them. if i were you i would call your local zoos and aquariums to see if they want them. they prolly won't be able to take them but it is worth a try. espacially cause they are a good size already. what are you going to do about the pleco? also, what are you going to do with the tank once you finally find a home for the fish?

Your tank looks a little bit crowded. Your fish are way big. But your Pacus are really nice.

Good luck. Your tank is cool.

I'm not sure if you can even get rid of them at this point. I don't think your LFS will take those giants.

This is why pacus should not be for sale.

I think they should be allowed to be for sale. People have to know what they are getting themselves into before they buy a Pacu.

Well, I think the biggest probelm is mis-representation.
My local shops don't advertise that they'll reach this large. If you ask them, they'll tell you they rarely get larger than 8"....

The same is true with Bala and IR Sharks in my area...it's a joke.

Yep. Most people walking into a fish store expect to get honest advice from fish stores. Only some, like us, realize that the information is probably false and even think of researching a fish outside of asking store employees before buying. There is no excuse to sell pacus to the general public....they should be available as specialty fish for those who actually know what they are getting into.

Well, that's what I'm saying. They should still be able to sell in your LFS. It's not like they should be banished. I think people should do some researching (at the very least) before they buy a Pacu, a Bala, or an IR.

However, I do agree that they should maybe put a sign of warning how big these fish can grow on their tank before they sell it. I don't ever trust the people at PetSmart or Petco with fish. No one should, those people are not knowledgable in fish at all. I go to another fish store (specializing in only fish, lots of cool saltwater stuff, a true fish store) and I totally trust them there. They are right about everything so far it seems.

I recently bought two Bala Sharks and I didn't know how big they could get. Fortunately, I have room for them, but they got HUGE. Like way big, I'm not sure how big exactly.

Same with my Headstander, although I did tons and tons of researching and asked everybody, my Headstander just overgrew. He ate too much, he'll probably get bloated and die off.

wow. you do realize a clown knife can get to 3 feet? Dude, you need to get away from the tank busters....your tank is not that big.

And Bomb, you're not understanding me. Available as specialty fish as in NOT in an lfs. From a seller or whatever such as one found on Aquatic Predators, MFK, Aquatic Terrors, etc. Im saying, most people do not even realize they should research before buying because in their mind the pet store employees will tell them everything. And if you think for one second that a petstore that wants to sell their pacus will put up a warning about their potential size, you are mistaken.

Well, a Clown Knife might be ok for a 75 gallon. Shouldn't have gotten all of those angels though..

4 angels are fine for a 75, they will make 2 pairs and divide the tank in half and attack everything else. Don't know how they'll do with a knife. But you'll have a hard time starting a African cichlid tank with American cichlids. But angels don't grow that big and you never have a problem finding homes for them.

Well, I had two Angels and they grew really big and really tall. And I used to keep a Clown Knife with my Angels, it was fine.

That's a great looking tank, idle0095! I'm glad you're trying to find homes for those pacus. If you don't have any luck with the zoos or aquariums, you may try pet stores. Some people have huge aquariums or even ponds that will accommodate such large fish, though it is rare.

I'd also keep an eye on the veriegated leafy plant in the back, right-hand corner by the intake for your Cascade filter. They are a type of Dracaena and are not a true aquatic plant. With huge Oscars and Pacus I don't know that they'll have a huge impact on the water quality, but you may want them to yank them out once they start rotting.

Again, a very good looking aquarium. And good luck with your new reef tank. That is sure to be a monumental and fulfilling undertaking.
