hi, I am in york region!!
Anyway your cories do go up for air at times but if it is going up a lot it is stressed in some way.
Check your water parameters. They also like a pretty quick turn over of water.
I have tried repeatedly to keep cories alive but have had no success. our ph is too high and so is our water hardness.
They also seem to like the water a bit cooler than some other tropicals and don't forget that the hotter the water temp the less oxygen is in the water. It has been cool however for the past couple of days so your tank should not be any hotter than usual.

my cories do fine in water with high ph and hardness (about 8.5 ph) but somtimes corys breath air from the top like on mine every 15 mmminutes
