Default fuzzy stuff

ok i have been cycling my 75 gallon fw tank know for about a week. and today we noticed fuzzy stuff all over the drift wood we put in there. is this the bacteria that i need. or should i be worried. its not real thick but lines teh whole peice of wood and rocks. everything is zero no3 and no2 and ammonia is 0 and i have been feeding it fish flakes like abuddy told me. my ph is around 7.8 and its hard water. one of my othe rbuddies told me to throw a few fish in there to speed up the process. i am not a hurry just making sure i am doing things right.

So, are you cycling your tank with fish food? The fuzzy stuff is mosy likely rotten food. I suggest you take a look at this post: http://www.fishforums.com/forum/gene...le-basics.html
From what I've heard, cycling a tank using fish food isn't very reliable.

cycling a 75g with like 3-5 small fish would be the best in my opinoin if you can get a use filer cartridge from a friend or somthing to seed the tank-in my 55g i cycled with 3 rainbow fish and one filter cartrige in about a week with no ill effects on the fish

I used food to cycle my tank. I used mostly shrimp c0cktail shrimp and some algae wafers (easy to clean uup) and it worked really well. Took about 4 weeks total, no deaths of any fish I stocked with when done, numbers have been steady since. It's still a young tank, but I was happy with it.
