Default 55 gallon filter suggestions

I have a 55 gallon tank that is currently being cycled.

I bought the tank used and it came with two filters (whisper 40 + 60)

for a variety of reasons I would like to replace these (Back of tank) filters with a canister filter.

I have the fluval 304 on my 30 and it works great.

I was thinking of the fluval 404 which I can get on e bay for $97 delivered.

A) is this a good deal
B) any other suggestions for filters?

Thanks all

Fluvals work fine, I have two, I personally prefer rena. They are easier to use, and a little more efficient IMO.

Just make sure you run your new canister with the other filters for awhile so it will be seeded.

You could try the new canister filters from Marineland. we had a demo of them at the LFS where i work and they seem great, even better than a fluval. No bypass so thats an added plus.

I do not have experience with the new canister, but from my past experience with the magnums. I would not say they are top dog now.

i have the new canister from marineland and i would go with the largest one not the medium sized one because you get 7 times turnover and hour with the medium and more than that with the larger...they do work great tho
