so i just got a 10g tank. because i had to get a bigger tank cuz my fish had babies. my question is how long can the babies stand not being in a tank with air flow. and do i need a heater for my tank? also, how long should i let the tank filter before adding the mother fish? i believe the mother is a painted tetra. all together there 8 babies,or well i guess they are called "fry". anyways, i hope someone can help me with my questions. thanks!

tetras like warmer water so I would recommend getting a heater. do you also have an air pump and a bubbler? what kind of filter are you running? for a 10 gal, I ran a 30 on mine and it was fine...i like a larger filter running on my tanks at all times.
also, can you post your PH level, nitrate level, nitrite level and ammonia levels? |

i have a Top Fin Power Filter 10 w/out adjustable flow rate.that i got from petsmart. i have a 18 in. bubble curtain as well.
and my levels are as follows: No3-0 No2-0 Ph-6.5-7.0 Kh-40 and Gh (general hardness) is 60 my old tank (that my fish is still in) is No3-80 no2-0 Ph-6.5 Kh-40 and Gh-120 so i think my new tank is doing better. but then again thats just water, no rocks or anything...yet. |

Your new tank will have to cycle. That will take time. I am not sure how advisable it is to use fry to cycle a tank.
N03 of 80 is high, I would strongly suggest doing some water changes until you get below 30 at a minimum. Being extra careful due to the fry of course If you put some of the rocks from your old tank into clean unused panty hose you can use that to help cycle the new tank. That will bring over some of the good bacteria

Are you even sure you bought a tetra, cause I thought they laid eggs. Post a pic of the fish and fry and we might be able to help you out some more.

Yeah, it takes two tetra to tango. But buy an adult female livebearer (molly, platy, swordtail, guppy) and you are likely to have fry soon.
