Default weirdest question ever

i want to make my tank look really nifty, so i was thinking of different things to put it in as decoration.... i have an old used cell phone i'd like to put on the bottom of the tank...i wanted to know if there are any chemicals that would do damage? i know the battery would so i'd take it off... anything else, or any ideas on how to seal the phone?

There's a bunch of metal in it that would rust too. Put a glass beer bottle instead.. Just be sure to drink the beer first.

But since your 19, don't drink the beer. If you do I'll beat you with a chair

you could use plastic animals, plastic play phones, beer bottles as suggested, etc.

If you want a beer bottle, just go walking on the side of the road and pick one up, just rince it REALLY well before you put it in the tank. Even running it throught he dishwasher wouldn't hurt.

I once rented a book on "nifty" looking aquarium ideas from the library. They suggested using things like various sizes of glass globes, monochromatic tanks, tiny cities...etc. Not exactly a natural look, but they looked cool .

You'd have to encase it in plastic resin. A two part epoxy or polyester resin (think fiberglass) or put it in a glass sphere like they sell for making your own xmas tree ornaments and seal it with aquarium sealant. I mean I guess you could take out all the electronics and only leave the plastic case, but then it wouldn't look real and you still could worry about lead paint.

hmm, maybe we can add a few old mattresses, rusted out truck missing its bumper, an old tv, maybe a rotted out couch...

I think your question has been pretty well covered here. I would like to see a picture of this tank when you are done. I don't understand why people have a problem with you decorating your tank in this unique fashion. Everyone has their own taste and I am eager to see your own creative take on an aquarium.

As long as the fish are happy, I don't see any problem in decorating the tank the way you want.

Unfortunately, there are always people who lack common courtesy, rorypg633. I typically skip over those posts, as they tend to lack any useful information. Even when they do contain something of benefit, the information can be attained elsewhere without the useless attacks. How is the tank coming?

He was probably saying that an old broken cellphone in your tank would be white trashy... not YOU...

wlel form what i gather here, just throwing a phone in isn't the best idea... I decided to try and strip one down, but I did it rather hastily and it doesnt look that good(still looks like a phone, just a beat up one). When I have more time, I'm going to strip another one down the same way, leaving just the plastic. Looked into the lead paint thing, that'd be a big no no on cell phone manufacturer's so I'm good.

Then empty cell shell should work, though you might have to glue in some rocks so it doesn't float.

I kind of liked the idea of encasing it in a container. If you did that you could also add other things into the container that normally wouldn't work in the tank, such as money (I keep thinking it says something about the death of the pay phone, which is happening!)

Good luck, rorypg633. I hope it works out for you.

Obsidian, I like the idea of putting other things in the container with the cell phone and the change being a statement about the death of the pay phone. Very clever!
