Its late so ill make this short. My wonderful puffer didnt come up to greet me and beg for food tonight, as he always has. I searched the tank for him and found him lying, barely breathing, next to two nickels which must have fallen into the tank behind a rock and i didnt see them. They are the only caause of death i can think of. Is there suck a thing as Nickel poisoning?

How about copper? Nickels are only 25% nickel and 75% copper.

I know I have been told never to put money in a tank so there has to be something about it that is harmful. You could try emergency massive water change and removal of the money (of course). Since you said he was barely breathing first, but then cause of death, so I am not sure if he was dead or just almost dead. That's what I would do, he might bounce back if he is still alive.

Puffers are sensitive to copper (according to the web).

There most certainly is such a thing as nickel poisoning, but I doubt that two nickels in the tank would have caused it.

well when i found him (he is dead now, last night he was about minutes from death) he was lying right NEXT to the nickels, and now he is doing the same. perhaps the water drectly around them was poisonous and he was attracted to them? He seems to like shiny things- he always played with my algea scrubber.
