Default Angelfish Compatability

My son has been pleading with me to buy him some angelfish for his tank.

He has a 30 gallon tank with the following fish......

6 Green Tiger Barbs
2 green cats
1 Bristlenoe
5 checker barbs

If I got 4-5 small angel fish would they be allright? I know that sometimes the barbs can be fin nippers but thought they were allright in schools of 5 or more.

P.S. - The barbs are all small....................Thanks

Tiger Barbs are pretty bad when it comes to long finned fish....especially in tight quarters. The Barbs may be small now, but they'll grow. I think with whats in the tank now, you are stocked in the upper-middle area.

If you want an Angel, you'd have to get rid of the Tiger Barbs and possibly the Checkers, as I'm not sure how they are with long finned fish.

Barbs tend to spread their aggression in large groups, but I would never trust them, even with 8+, with Angels. They are nippy in any number........

Your max for that tank is going to be 5 angels. not 4-5. but they wont work with those fish. they are going to get torn apart from those barbs.

If I were you I would return the barbs, get some nice little tetras (as in no black skirts, or black widow tetra), and get 3 angels.

You could raise 5 little angels in that tank, but nothing else. And you might end up keeping just one pair when they grow up. You don't need any more fish in that tank, its at capaciity.

I agree totally that Tiger Barbs and Angels don't mix. But Checker barbs are fine, they stay down towards the bottom, and love the same water conditions Angels do. In fact add some black water extract, they will both love you for it.
