Default white fungus/mold on substrate

hi all. new to online aquaria. ive a 65 gallon going for over 3 months. i planted a nice plant in its black plastic planter complete with its foam padding (no soil ) in the left rear corner of my tank over a month ago. there is a pretty powerful airstone about midway up the plant suctioned to the glass so the circulation is strong there.
i took off the side panel (i use it to keep out too much light) and noticed all over the gravel and the two glass panels a blanket of white fungus type stuff. first glance looked like litle white worms of a sort but careful observation showed it no such creature...i think!
ive had a few fish die recently of some sort of internal hemmoragging(sp?) and wonder if this could be the cause. ive been treating the tank now with melafix for the last 2 days before i noticed this.
could the way i plugged in the plant be the cause?
does the circulation cause it?
all of the fish seem to be doing just fine.
i plan to do a water change vacuuming the area very well with the siphon, unpot the plant and replug it naturally. i use seachem flourite in the tank for the plant growth.
should i finsih out the melafix b4 i do this or are there any better ideas??
thanx

Rockwool is inert (if thats what yours are in, which is what plants are usually potted in) so unless there was something living in there i doubt it. First i'd go to where i got the plant and ask if theyve had similar problems.
Little white wormy thing on glass usually spell planaria, which is a type of "sewer worm", usually only encoutered in aquaria when water changes are lax and pollutants allowed to accumulate. Laterite/flourite is rich soil tho, so it MAY be that, altho i'd certainly not take that as gospel and do a bit more detective work first.

Tank parameters?

thanx. i am quite sure it is not a worm of sorts.just the shape of the mold or whatever the heck it is.
its a high-current tank. i forgot to mention that i also have a hot magnum 250 which flushes the tank very efficiently.
