i have a bristlenose in my tank along with african chiclid's, as you all know it's hard to feed them with the africans in there. WHat can i feed it??? would it be ok just with algae and left over food in tank???
i heard lettuce and cucumber can be feed to it....would this affect the africans? |

your africans migh even naw on the cucumber themselves. it will not hurt them. you could feed cucumber or you could buy algae wafers, theyre sinking pellets for your bristlenose

Allot of people cut a slice of the cucumber and use something to wieght it down so it stays on the bottom,
Mine get's allot of algie, plus I drop in shrimp pellet "sinking" and he always comes around to the front of the tank when I turn off the pumps to feed my fish, so he knows he is getting a treat. |

we just use a small rock and tie the cucumber down with a rubber band. we ususlly use a 2inX2in piece as our fish eat it all up! you could also use a vegetable clip. if you want, you can start out with a smaller piece of cucumber, just to test your fish out. but either way it does not matter

Bristles will eat sliced zuchini or cuke (parboil or lightly nuke so they will sink), canned green beans (no salt added ones), algae wafers and they adore the occasional blood worms.

What kind of africans? Malawi are the algae grazers.
As far as lettuse, just don't use iceburg. So Kale, spinnach, cukes, a 10 gallon tank with the lights always on and rotate the rocks out as the algae grows are all good methods, along with zuccini ,bok choy and other green leefies. Just don't let it sit in there too long and, as always, when feeding supplimentally for algae eaters, always up your water changes. |

I think My Bristle nose spends more time cleaning everything else and not the wood,
he might be doing that when the lights are off, He is always out on the move, day or night.
