Default Observations on feeding peas

After I overfed frozen bloodworms the other day, I noticed one of my little black angels is swimming funny. I thinks its a fin issue, but I decided to try the "pea thing" just in case. I took some "petite peas" out the freezer, added water and microwaved. Then I took to the fish. While I was at it I offered peas to other fish to see what would happen. So here is what I observed.

1. Most fish will eat peas. This surprised me. But apistos, angels, goodieds, Mbuna, jewels cichlids & killiefish all ate peas if I got the shell off and made it small enough to go in their mouths. Some liked them better than others, but they didn't hit the bottom. If they got spit out, the fish took a bite off and and another fish grabbed it.

2. No fish eats the shells. I figured some omnivore or herbivore would take them, but they got spit out and left every time. When I mashed a whole pea, the fish would grab it, work at it, eat the center and spit out the shell.

So anyone know a brand of shellless frozen peas?

emc:

Just very minor thinking but I used canned English Peas in my mixtures.

TR

BTW: I put "a bunch" of garlic in my recipes.

I have never heard of shell-less peas. I think that in order to do that, someone would have to remove the shells by hand.

Have you thought about pureeing the peas in a food processor or a blender? I have never tried this but you might be able to puree some peas, make some little balls, let them stiffen on a tray or maybe in a low temp oven, and then try feeding. That would be a lot of work but it might make for a cool snack.

Just hand shell them. Its really easy, they slip right out of the shell if you do it while they are still frozen. Then after they are shelled I warm them up
