dyed fish?

are neon green dainos and neon corys dyed?

i assume so yet i hope not..

Here's what I was told: The neon "glo light" danios used to be dyed, and eventually the coloration found its way into their genes. I'm not sure I believe that story. Either way, I don't support breeding or distributing fish that are so unnatural. That's a personal thing for me, I will never buy a blood parrot (I feel so bad for these guys) or a "neon" fish that isn't naturally that way.

The danios are geneticly altered. Genes from jellies and corals turn them different colors.

I'm not sure if the cories are or not, or even if we are thinking of the same species. Post a link to the ones you are thinking of with pics. There are a couple of cories that are neon, not like green and pink, but still neon. They are found like that in the wild.

Glofish danios are not dyed, were never dyed. In the beginning, genes from corals and jellyfish were "injected" in zebra danio embryos, but now the genes have become part of their DNA, so as with all other genes, they are passed down through generations. So basically, breeding Glofish danios results in some showing the flourescent colors and others with normal zebra danio colors, although both will carry the flourescent gene. This is not harmful to the danios health in any way. I support this fully, as scientific innovations like this can help end the cruel practices of dying fish.

As far as I know, the Glofish danios are the only fish sold with this genetic alteration, so any other fish sold as "neon whatever color" is dyed.

But there are some neon cories that are not dyed. The neon orange cories are not dyed, and are mearly a color mutation of the normal aenus cory. They are still found in the wild that way, but they are spensive. There is a lfs near me that has some of the neon orange cories for sale, wild caught ones, and they are 17.99. They are normally pretty cheap when it comes to fish prices as well.

yea the cories i am thinking about have a line on each side that i think was green but i only saw one for a brief moment before it hid itself. also idk if these dainos were the glofish but they were labeled as neon green and looked cool, especially for only $2.50.

I have seen a particularly light variety/ strain of bronze corys labeled as "neon." They are a pinkish-orange color and they glow with a blacklight.
