Gouramis

Well, I'm not a new member but apparently I was somehow deleted. My old username is I Love Fish. Anyways, we bought a Blue Gourami about a month ago and it has grown quite a bit. Last night we introduced a Dwarf Gourami to our Blue Gourami. As soon as we put the bag in to acclimate the temperatures, our old gourami took an interest in our new one. However, it chases our new one around our entire 20 gallon. I'm almost positive our old gouarmi is a female (rounded dorsal fin) and our new one is a male (pointed dorsal fin) so I'm unsure as to why they aren't getting along. I thought there were plenty of hiding places for our fish but I'm considering adding heavier planting.

gouramis can be quite territorial so 'he' is in 'her' tank! and she doesn't like it.
if you have a divider you can separate them until they get used to seeing each other and then try it.
I did that with a really aggressive betta who would not accept anything else in the tank.
I kept the platy on one side of the mesh barrier for about 3 months.
Finally I removed the barrier and they get along fine now.
Watch them really carefully every few hours in case you have to get the new fish out in a hurry in order to save its life.
