I'd say add a few more silver dollars, get rid of the bala shark as it will outgrow the tank, along with the CAE's. Make it so you have 6 of each species of cory, get 3 more bleeding hearts, 3 more emperor tetras, and you should be good.
As for the ropefish, I'm not too sure, but they do get very big from what i've heard. With the empty 40G, you could move one shoal of corys over to that and some of the tetra schools, so they have more room and are more evenly dispersed |

i think it would be best to move the cories, tetras and gouramis to the 40;and leave the rest in the 55.
there are several species of silver dollars.most get up around 8 inches.chinese algae eaters get that big also;and get pretty mean.while the bala shark is relatively peaceful he can grow to be a foot long.the yo yos get to be 6 inches the rope fish 18 inches or more..obviously you are going to have to decide on what to get rid of or get a much larger tank.

Yeah I knew that I would have too move some around. The reason I have so many in the 55 is, I had a problem with my 40gal tank so all the fish had to be moved to the 55. P.S. Hopefully the ropefish is only short-term. It had a fin cut off and the LPS gave it too me to heal it up.

One never has too many fish, only too few tanks.

Another concern you may want to consider with your bala shark is that they tend to prefer living in groups of 3 or more. They do need larger tanks, I'm afraid.

So should I just get rid of the Bala? I originally had three but one died the day after I got it, the other when it was already 5 inches long.
Oh the 40gal is a hexagon! Will that make any difference? |
