Default HELP! New aquarium stand question/concern

Hi, everyone. I just purchased a new Perfecto brand stand for my new 30-gallon Long tank. The tank fits on it fine but it is only supported on each end! See photos below. The stand only touched the bottom of the tank on each long end, but not along most of the long sides. I am worried that this will allow the tank to bow and the glass to crack. Is this how all aquarium stands are? Should I exchange this for another brand stand?
Many thanks,
Tom in NJ

yup, thats just fine. you only need the rim of the tank supported, you dont want anything up against the actual glass of the aquarium. so as long as the frame that runs around the bottom of the tank is in contact with the stand all the way around, then its perfect

The frame that runs along the bottom of the tank is not supported along most of the long sides. In those photos, the surface the tank bottom rests on are only at each side of the stand, and a small portion of the long sides of the plastic frame base on the aquarium. To sum up: the tank is unsupported on 90% of its long (36") edges, but it is supported on all of its short (12") sides. It's a Perfecto pine stand.
Thanks again,
Tom

I see what you mean. Only the ends are supported. That doesn't look good to me, it should have a lip all the way around to hold ALL sides of the tank. Your call but if it was me I wouldn't use it. You could do some DYI and add boards around the other two sides to make it safe.

When I first saw your pic I thought the whole lip of the tank would be supported, but I see what you are talking about with just the ends.

I agree with Rita, if the whole outer edge of the tank isn't supported, I would try to add in some support if it would fit, or just exchange for another stand. I wouldn't use it if just the 2 ends are supported.

I prefer the iron stands for this exact reason. They have about a one inch lip running around the sides.

From the pictures, it almost looks as if the stand that you got is missing the pieces of wood or OSB that are supposed to be supporting the front and back of the tank. In the second and third pictures it looks as though the stand has been made to hold some boards on those ledges and that they weren't placed.

when i build racks or stands for my tanks,i do not concern myself so much with the ends being supported(except for 10's)..but i do make sure that the front and back have more than enough support.but then again;i don't build them for show;i build them to hold tanks.and all of my racks in my fishroom are constructed from 2x4's..
and if i were you,i would forget about trying to fix that stand..it is not what you paid good money for.kind of like buying a new car and finding out it has no brakes..are you going to take it back or spend the extras money to put them on yourself?????take that stand back and demand a properly built one..if they don't have one;shop somewhere else....

Thanks everyone for your replies! I ordered an AGA (All Glass brand) stand to match my AGA aquarium. Apparently, the Perfecto is not matched for my aquarium. It will arrived on Friday and I'll check it out thoroughly at the store to make sure it fits my aquarium I'll post here if I find out there are issues. Thanks again, everyone!

Tom-

That doesn't really make sense. The AGA and the Perfecto tank would look identical save possibly some badging. The tank bottoms are exactly the same, so the stand should work for either one. It's a good idea to exchange the stand anyway; the one you put up the pictures of looks like bad news to me.
