fish help....

I bought a light for my planted tank today and it has legs that allow it to be above the aquarium. I was wondering if angelfish can jump out of the tank? Is there any diy cover or lid if they can jump out?

the light i got is a Coralife 24" 2x65 watt light. Does anyone use this? Is it good for plants?

Idk about the angelfish, but I have a 24" 1x65 and I really like it, and so do the plants. Never had problems with my fish jumpin out though.

I am thinking about getting a glass cover since it evaporates really fast, so I guess you could do that.

What size tank do you have again? That is a good light, but unless you have pressurized co2 you should probably use a 50/50 bulb and a daylight bulb or just use 1 bulb. Without pressurized co2, you will run into some bad algae issues if you use 2 daylight bulbs without enough co2.

I have never had a problem with Angelfish jumping. The fish I've had that jump were loaches and every now and then a tetra or 2 but I think they were being chased.

Angelfish don't usually jump. They tend to be the dominant or alpha fish in their tanks.

Hatchets, glassfish, some loaches, and swordtails are the most predictable jumpers IME.

Angels aren't regular jumpers, but they can hop out if startled, esp. at night. I second the cover just to reduce evaporation. Without one, the room gets steamy and the water level drops. DIY covers include everything from plastic or glass slabs to saran wrap and taped on clear plastic bags. The important thing is not to let the lid rest on the water's surface. You need it clear for oxygen to get in the water.

Covering the water's surface with a floating plant will also discourage jumping.
