I've been meaning to figure this out for at least a year now. My tank has always had these small transparent/white things growing on it, and i can see them well, but i think they may be hydras. here's a better picture i could get of some (the tiny white things on the glass):
![]() I'm not sure what they are, but i want them gone, because if they sit to long, floating debris sticks to them, making the tank look awful. here are some stuck to my filter with debris: ![]() Help please?

Its from lack of adiquate filtration i had it in my very first 33g tank with a crappy filter, as soon as i upgraded to a new filter and had better circulation they went away.

do you know what they are though? i'm sure it's some sort of living thing, cause they grow. The ones at the bottom of the tank, out of the stronger current, look like a cross between a mushroom and a feather duster worm.

If you mean the white things, then yes, I think you have Hydras. Congratulations.
I never would have seen them if I hadn't been looking for them; they're very hard to spot. I have a tank full of bright green ones, by the way. Anyway, a few drops of some copper-based fishy medicine or even a few pennies in the tank for a week should get rid of them nicely. |

would the copper effect my apple snails, or is that a small enough dosage that it wouldn't matter?

The snails complicate things, yes. Take them out and put them somewhere safe

thanks. they're in ick quarantine with the rest of my fish while the main tank is being heated/salted/coppered. the hydras and nematodes are fading pretty fast. (apparently apple snails do fine in a salt bath! Lucky for them.)
