I'm about an hour away from where he's at, and if I knew for sure I could do something with them, I would go get them... He also has THREE gouramis in there with those MASSAVE goldfish. I just don't know what I'd do with them.

Stick 'em in the bathtub while you dig a pond Well, maybe not the bathtub, residue, et al. But seriously, that's a teeny tiny tank. A huge tub would be more suitable while something long term is being done. If you can't, you can't

ok so I sent him an email... I think I could take all 5 fish home in an ice chest (just for the car ride) and maybe not even take them home, but straight to our LFS for store credit or something. Then the 10 gallon tank could be a back up. I feel so bad for them.

That kind of made me a little sick to be honest.

I'd take them for my pond if I wasn't on the other side of the country...

He says they've been in there since 2002. He has the two goldfish and two blue gouramies and 1 yellow gourami. I'm taking them this evening (if it all works out) and they are going straight to the LFS's pond they have indoors. The gouramies will go for sale. I was looking at the pictures and at first kept blinking to make sure I was seeing things right. Its horrible. 6 years in a 10 gallon.

The guy must be doing something right, or they never would have made it this long.
I've seen worse then that actually, and the fish were perfectly happy & healthy.

That's just crazy the goldfish must have a hard time turning around. I can't even imagine how much their growth has been stunted..

It's definitely surprising that they're that large and in such a small tank. I wouldn't go as far as saying they're happy or healthy though; you don't know until you've seen them. I thought it was more likely he got them recently and put them in there. I guess he did a lot of water changes to keep them from stunting.

Even if they are roughly 10", judging from the tank, I have to agree with Katie. It's still disturbing.

Just because something can live in an enclosure that small, doesn't mean it should. I think Sarah is doing a good thing, taking the time to move them like that. Hopefully their new quarters will be a little less cramped.

I'm concerned about the condition I'm going to find them in.

Yeah, I would be too. I once rescued a couple fish from a 10 like that. The water was so dark you could barely see em Man where they glad to get outta there!

ok so the fish are home... and are all doing well. when we showed up to take them, all five of them were laying on the bottom doing NOTHING. now, the two goldfish are in an established pond (awaiting the pond my boyfriend is now convinced we NEED), and the gouramies are in the ice chest with an air filter thing until i can get them to the LFS tomorrow. oh my... sometimes having a big heart isn't the best thing for my wallet.
