help in identity?!

Ohk so long story short my friend made a trip to the local creek and brought me a few of the little fish that he caught as they tried to just from one section of the creek to the other, some had died before he got to my house and were wondering what kind they are any help in identifying?

















now i know these aren't the best pictures but i tried and i know they are either two different species or two different sexes so yeah any help appreciated =D

they kind of look like little baby pearch but i really have no idea. that would be my best guess

They aren't perch.

Where did he get them? Is there a name to the creek, river, etc? What state? That would help alot.

They're pupfish, obviously, but which one? That is where the location data becomes very useful. What kind of Pupfish they are depends on where you got them.
You're in Texas, so I'm gonna guess either Red River Pup or Pecos Pupfish.

Did not think of this one until TOS posted the above but I believe that they are some freshwater variant of a Sheepshead Minnow.

BTW: Although fairly small these minnows are first class trotline bait for channel and blue cats in the Pecos River (or at least portions of the reach extending from the Pecos High Bridge to the Amistad Reservoir Please note on the map Langtry - the hangout of Judge Roy Bean).

Well i am in south Texas just below corpus Cristi and this creek is usually dry until the summer comes around with the rainy months and then it fills up and all kinds of fish occupy it. the creek has no name its just called "the creek", the water isn't crystal clear its filled with mud and silt kind of debris if that helps any.

I just flew over Texas and discovered there are lots of lakes around Houston. I never would have realized that, but there they were, right outside the window. Wow.

Yup yup there are lakes, rivers, and creeks just about all over Texas =) the "Frio" is really popular its a vacation spot really nice if you have the money you should make a trip enjoy garner state park really fun stuff and the fishing is a lot of fun fresh and salt not the most colorful fish but fun to catch =) just watch out for the catfish i got finned the other day almost lost my pinky it was pretty bad =/....geez i feel like im pitching a ad to go visit Texas haha =)

We kinda did during the depth of the latest major drought.

BTW: Down where AW lives it rains. Off down there the definition of a drought is "it hasn't rained in a couple of weeks" while our definition of a drought is that "it hasn't rained in a couple of years".

Your comments are humorous now but they would not have elicited laughter several years ago when the Director of Public Works advised me privately to be seriously watering the Oak trees at the office and the Pecan trees at the house as the City Council was considering implementation of "No Outside Watering" if we did not receive runoff into the lakes within a month or so.
