As most of you know I have 15 goldfish in a 25 gallon fish tank.
I KNOW THAT IS TO MANY! I was wondering if this was a good filter for the price to get for them as well as for fish after them. http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...ductId=2752378 Thanks for all of your help! |

Yes, the emporer power filters are good filters. Depending on how big the goldfish are, you'd probably be pretty good off getting the 400 model. Of course, you don't want an excessive amount of flow in the tank, so its your call.

Thanks guys for the quick reply!!
And yes I planed on getting the 400 if my mom lets me get a new filter. Right now I have a Whisper 20-40, and they just fly through the fliters left and right. And just for a 3 pack cost about $15-20. I live a small town with no pet stores so the only place I can buy things is at Petsmart or Walmart where everything is over priced. I have another question about Biowheels. Do they grow there own bacteria over time or do I have to purchace some? And should I fill extra the refillable media container or just use the Carbon in the filter cartridges? It also says in the Product features "Filter requires Rite-Size "E" Filter and 4 oz. Refillable Media Container Spray Bar Driven BIO-Wheel. Filter cartridges sold separately." I thought they came with the spray Bars and BIO-Wheels, and that you had to buy additional filter cartridges for extras. They make it sound like you have to buy the wheel also. Is that true? I have no experience with bio wheels, i personally dont like them, but I'm assuming it's the same as my dads magnum filter. the wheel does get clogged, and needs to be replaced because it hinders the filtration ability of the filter.

The Bio-Wheel will culture bacteria over time. You never need to replace it unless you have some terrible disease outbreak in your tank. Occasionally you can rinse it with some dechlorinated or tank water, but I have not found it necessary.
The Emperor 400 is probably a good bet for your grossly overstocked tank. I'm not exactly sure what the height of that tank is, but if you can, use the mid-lift intake to maximize circulation.
