Im looking to pick up on a thourough (srry my spelling is not the greatest) and informative encyclopedia on the many species of freshwater fish. i would also not mind it to have general information on the care and maintenence of freshwater aquaria. If anybody has any books that they own like this plz suggest it as i want to buy a good guide that would help me research and look into many different species of fish and that would guide me along the way in future aquarium keeping. Thanks!!!

Are you looking for a book with mostly aquarium fish or a lot of fish. Even hard to find ones? What price range? Some can get pretty pricy

There's a book called the Fishopedia (I can't remember the author right now...) that's very informative.

Axlrod's aquarium atlas has long been a standard in the hobby:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s&n=507846 A newer, similar book is also available from Axlrod: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...R&st=books (much cheaper, more info per fish but fewer fishes as far as I can tell) I also like the Baensch series of books, but they really work best if you buy all of them: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...83145?v=glance

If you have a particular fish/fishes you wish to learn more about i find checking out various websites quite interesting. I find many books and sites contradict each other so just one book is'nt alway right.

I have the whole Baensch set. Freshwater and Saltwater and even the fossal book. Well not all of them just the ones currently ava in english. There is a plant series and another one or two for freshwater that have not been translated yet. They are very complete but because the series is over many books you have to search to find the fish you are looking for. This is where you learn to use the index.

There are about 100 different Characins in the book. This includes fish like silver dollars, pencilfish, hatchetfish, and tetra.

The first in each series contain the most common and as the series expands they become rarer and harder to find as far as the fish go. But they do save some common ones for the later books just to make you buy them all
