I've got 6 rosboras, 3 albino cories, 3 dwarf gouramis, and a chinese algae eater in my 29 gallon tank. I recently got rid of 4 neon tetras and 2 guppies. I got rid of the guppies because that was the plan all along but I started with 7 neons and they slowly died off. I couldn't figure it out at first but then it became apparent that one of the Gourami's is a jerk and is picking on pretty much all my other fish. I thought at first it was just picking on the other red gourami but he's definitely going after all the fish. Anyway, he's still doing it. What can I do? Should I just get rid of him?
Also, my chinese algae eater is struggling. I'm not sure if he's eating. Most of the algae is gone but I feed him algae pellets at night. The last few nights I've gone back to my tank with a flashlight a half hour or so after I feed him (I usually feed him shortly after the lights go out) and the only things eating are the cories. Should I feed him during the day? |

3 dwarf gouramis is too much for a 29g, especially if you have mean ones. Get rid of the bully and see if the other two act normally. Algae eaters need lower temperatures than the gouramis and flowing water to feel comfortable.

I wouldnt necessarily get rid of him yet, he is probably getting territorial, do you have plenty of hiding places?
We had one in our tank that lost it a bit, thats because my boss moved the tank about and took out the plant he used to hide in. we put a new hiding place back in for him and he was passive as a lamb. On another note that Chinese Algae eater is gonna get pretty big and aggressive towards the others, check this out. http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/algeater.htm We have 4 in a 110Litre - I am trying to get my boss to find them new homes. Add some more plants or rocks. I adopted two gourami's this month and they're both males I anticipated trouble when I found out the gold gourami was a male, and they did snap at eachother at first, I added some more plants and now they leave other fish and eachother alone.

I've already got a future home for the Algae eater but how do I take care of him now. I never see him eating and he barely moves. I'm not sure if he's even eating.
I think i'm going to take the gourami back. The other two are fine. i'll just find some other fish. |
