Replacing filter media or not?

I've had a Eheim Filter sitting around with water for almost a month now but I need to hook it back up to my new tank..should I just rinse/clean all of the filter media in it or should I just purchase new filter media? I would think that there is bacteria in there that might harm my setup....

You can clean it all in a strong bleach solution (not the pads). Let it dry out completely- then reuse it. If you want to be doubly safe- after drying soak it all in bucket with dechlorinator added.

Also clean the filter itself thoroughly.

No offence DavidDoyle, but I wouldnt use a strong bleach, I'd boil it.

Rine the pads thouroughly, you dont want to kill off any useful bacteria if you can help it.
