Question salt and cory cats?????

well here i am asking another dumb question im sure. I was reading through some older posts just gleaning info when i came across a post that said no aquarium salt for cories. i got my first cories when my 36 gallon bowfront was finished cycling 1 completely disappeared 2 died and i have one left. he seems to be doing well and he's a cute little bugger, but i wanted to pick him up some more friends. my question is could the salt be the reason i lost my cories. my water parameters are perfect as im sort of neurotic at testing my water. i change 25-50 percent of my water weekly and the rest of my fish are doing awesome. any suggestions? also i was looking at some sinking food for the little guy i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for that as well. thank you guys for putting up with my lack of knowledge. i really do appreciate your help !

Corys do not like salt in the water. As for foods, a variety works. they will scavenge sunken flakes etc, but a couple shrimp pellets are a welcome treat. Also Corys like to be in small schools. I'd recommend 3 minimum. Glad to hear you are doing regular partial water changes. That's the single most thing you can do to insure fish health.

My cory's LOVE live california blackworm, brine shrimp, and bloodworm. They also enjoy Plecocaine(sold by Lohachata) and sinking pallets by Hikari, I'm sure you can find another brand(http://www.petco.com/product/3985/Hi...t=OnSiteSearch). Actually, I rarely feed my fish flakes but, when I do everything else in the tank seems to gobble them up before the cory's get a chance.

my cories love to eat algae wafers and flakes, both made by tetra. i have never tried plecocaine, but if my cories love the wafers i have now, they should love the pleco caine.

I always thought that a little salt was ok with cories, but i am not sure. i dont know much about it, but good luck!

yep... the fishlady is right.. Plecocaine is awesome stuff... how do you think it got it's name.... lol.... all fish need a good varied diet.. both proteins and veggies...... while i do use Plecocaine as my staple food... i also feed algae/spirulina wafers to the cats and plecos and spirulina flakes to the other fish like tetras and angels etc.....
