Default moving semi-large fish

I will be graduating in about 2 weeks from college, which means i hope i have a job b4 too long, which means ill prolly have to move.

i hve a 55 gallon aquarium that i houses an 18 inch eel that i need help on moving... i was thinking a large cooler for the trip and as a temp home while the aquatium is recycled. this will give me a chance to redecorate it and fix some stupid stuff i did at the time i set up the tank... and i planned on setting up a simple sump filtration system for my eel while it was in the cooler.. at most 3 weeks to a month and i would give him places to feel comfy while hes in there.

but also how do i get him out of the tank?

Check in the pond are of websites or even your local petstore. They have larger nets. As a last resort your local sporting goods store has fishing nets that are rather large.

With this being an eel you are trying to capture I would sugest a section of 4" pvc pipe. Cut yourself a 2-3' length and place it in your tank after of course removing any decoration or obstructions which may be in there. An eels natural tendancy would be to seek out the tubing as a place of refuge. Once the eel is in the tube you can cover each end with a net, your hand, or whatever else comes to mind and remove him from the tank and transfer him.
This should work once you figure out how to manuever around your tanks crossbrace.

ahhh maaan, tanker beat me to it. is it a spiny eel? I moved mine at 12 inches by waiting till he was in the pvc pipe, then covering both ends so no water escapes, and I just carried him to the other tank. but across town I'd take him in the pvc pipe and put it in a tub or cooler.
