okay...at the moment, I have 3 healthy tiger barbs, 1 healthy red minor tetra and 1 healthy bristlenose pleco in a 10 gal. tank ( I am aware the tank is too small for tigers) Now, I plan on getting a 29 gal tank I saw at walmart. It comes with an overhead lamp and a filter, and a various number of things and it costs 94 dollars, which sounds good and in a good pricerange for me, since I really can't afford to get a more costly tank. I also can't get a bigger tank, since my house is very small. Now, I'd like to keep my tigers, and I think it should be fine for them. I know I need more tigers because they need to school, as well as the red minors, but lately my luck has not been good and at the moment I have two sick red minors in a critter keeper on meds. if they make it, there would be 3 tiger barbs and 3 red minors plus 1 bristlenose pleco in a 29 gal tank. Now I don't have the tank yet, but when I get it, what do you guys think I should do? should I just get more barbs and tetras, and that will fill my tank or can I get perhaps a more colorful fish or two in there as well? I really do like my tigers and tetras but my mom and I would also like more color in the tank (red orange and black is all there is) Perhaps a goldfish ( though I doubt it ) or something...
I know most of you or some of you believe 29 gal isn't even enough for my tigers and minors... but please help me out, I'd really like to have a nice fish tank up and going with happy fish. I have tried hard so far but disease and just plain bad luck seems to have been the only thing I've gotten. help me out please... |

I wouldn't try a goldfish with tigers or tropical fish in general. I think the tigers would nip its fins. Other than that i dont have much info to provide. sorry

No goldfish, that's for shure. I would give the tigers even a bigger tank, but I guess a 29g goes. Tigers grow huge and are energetic...
So: 10 tigers 1 bristlenose and that's it. You could give the minors away, a school of them wouldn't fit anymore. Or anything else, either.

6 tigers 6 minors and 1 pleco.... or 5 tigers, 5 minors, 1 pleco and a dwarf gourami depending on your pH and hardness

Tigers can go pretty aggressive in a small tank with a small group. They just might rip the gourami into pieces..

Thanks all. I should be getting the tank by next month. Sounds like I don't have too many options...hmm. well, my tigers currently are not the evil kind and aren't killing each other or the red minors, I unfortunately (or if it isn't too mean to say, fortunately ) lost the evil tiger by an accident of it jumping out of the quarantine tank...but this fish was the main leader of my 5 tigers (at the time) and would have them all nipped at and bossed around, and even got to the point of almost eating one of my other tigers alive. I would probably judge the barbs I get and see how they are. Thanks again for your help.
