Hi, I haven't posted in a while since Splashes has been doing so well.
Can I use Rustoleum clear lead-free enamel on tank decorations? I ask because I removed Splashes' shark decoration last month, and he hasn't made any bubble nests since then. I think he misses his shark friend! But the paint was peeling off the shark and I didn't think that was safe. So, my question is whether I can coat the shark with enamel sealer and put him back in. Does anyone know if it's safe once dry? Thanks! |

Simpte, do you know if it's any different than the paint originally used? How safe was that since it peeled and bubbled? (not being snarky, just an honest question)

Marine paints are the thing to try and find. Check hobby shops or even boating supply stores. Unfortunally you probably have to buy a large quantity. There are other chemicals in paint other than lead that is toxic to fish.

Even the boat paints arn't completely environementinly friendly. I suggest you buy a new shark.

If you have a big enough tank with enough hiding places, pH of around 7, you can keep virtually any fish together as long as all the fish are around the same size and these two groups of fish are avioded: Serrasalmus Tetradon(figure eights and dwarfs are the exception). I keep a successful community of fish in a 4 foot tank including the following families: Cichlids, tetras, loaches, gouramis, barbs, rainbows, livebearers, killiefish, catfish, puffers. |

I could buy a new shark, but I'm afraid it will do the same thing. His treasure chest is starting to bubble too.
So you're telling me they use marine paints for this stuff? Not likely, since it peels in a FW tank. thanks anyway. I guess I'll just have to invest in a bunch of sharks to replace as needed. |
