Note: I have yet to buy any equipment, as I am going to be starting the tank after finishing the planning stages.
-6 Penguin Tetras
I love these things, and had an internal battle on whether to include 6 of these or 8 Rasboras. But in the end I decided I'll try 'em again!
-2 Praecox Rainbows
The centerpieces. I really like the way these things look, and I'll be able to handle them, so why not?
-3 Japonica Amano Shrimps
Again, not sure about number. I guess 1 will be enough, but again, I'd be completely new to this species.
So is this too much? Could I add more? I was thinking about a clam but I'd rather be safe then sorry. If everything goes well I'll be LiveFeeding the tank some time.
I think maybe 3 Badis badis would be ok. I have no experience with them, and I am speculating based on their size.
For the shrimp, you could have a lot without doing much to your bio load. The shrimp might become a snack for the Badis badis though.
I would suggest against a clam. They are boring and all they do is bury themselves in the sand. You also need a very well established tank, and maybe a little dirty, but without ammonia issues. They are hard to take care of. Very few people successfully keep clams long term. Clams don't actually have brains, so they don't do anything at all. They seem to know to bury themselves though.
I've decided I can't really deal with the wild eating habits of the Badis without prior experiance, so I've decided I may replace it with 2 Praecox Rainbows.
