Default Need help wioth setting up a small bass 20g tank.

I wants to set up a tank to hold some small bass that I catch when I go fishing at a local lake. I went out today and bought a 20g long tank for the small bass. and a 10g tank for the minnows we use to fish with. Now. Since my roommate (Fishfrenzy) is somewhat knowledgeable about fish he said HE would help ME but he and i dont know how to go about setting up these tanks to hold these fish. I wants to keep the bass in the 20g as pets and use the 10g just as a holding place for the minows and possibly breed them. if anyone has any info at all about how to go about this please let me know i would greatly appreciate it,. thanks.

for one this, the 20 g is way to small for one bass, let alone a lot of them. how many fish are in each tank?

It depends on the type of bass. Just off the top of my head, I would say 20 gallons is probably pretty small if you're planning on keeping them for any long period of time.

they need a tank with alot of space length and width wise and not much height wise, depending on its size a 2 ft by 1 ft tank is a bare minimum, but now know exactly you probably need a larger tank, hopefully someone more knowledgable in this area can help out some more

A 20 long can only hold very small bass, and not for very long. You'd be able to keep the minnows in it just fine, though. The minnows will probably do okay in the 10, too, depending on the species.

As for the bass in the 20, this can be done, BUT:
-- you'll need to go to overkill-lengths on the filtration, and you'll have to make lots of water changes.

What kind of minnows are they? Do you know?

Erm, yeah, I catch like 15" bass... Not gonna fit. And the minnows will also die off in a small 10. The minnows, I'd say you'd need at least a 30 long. Or at least in that 20.... Sorry, I'm not much help. Hey, since you're a fellow fisherman, join my forums at http://www.sbsociety.net/forums It's a fishing and outdoors forum.

Well, that depends on the minnows. I have lots of minnows in various tanks, and they do fine in 10 gallons, depending on species.

Also check with your local DNR... Most bass are considered game species, and are illegal to keep under a certain size if you plan on fishing for them (Any other method of capture is considered illegal). Also you CANNOT let them go out of captivity back into the place you found them, this is highly illegal and you could be faced with a lot of penalities if you got caught.
Long term these bass need a LARGE tank, min 75 gallons. They get about 23 inches at the end years of thier life. Its hard for them to even turn around in a 75 gallon. If you want to keep something in a 20 gallon thats native, try something less demanding of space. Such as some minnows.

Where are you basscatcher? I can probably tell you many very interesting small species native to your area which are very suitable for a small tank.
