Default green algae

i psoted about this here once before, and someone told me it was green spot algae, or something like that.

anyways, i still have it, and it drives me mad. my rocks and everything turn green within a matter of days after a cleaning. what can i do? is there a chemical i can add to get rid of it? an algae eater that will get ride of it?

Never put chemicals into your tank (unless they are fertilizers). Products that claim to "remove algae" or "phosphate remover" Only mask the problem or exchange one for another. Cover the tank and keep the lights off for 3-4 days. It should clear up.

As long as it prevents light from entering the tank on the sides it would be O.K.

I have severe green algae in my 10 gallon tank... I also do weekly water changes and scrub the sides and remove the decor to scrub it. Each time more and more algae arrives. I added a small pleco and he helped the situation, but died while I was visiting my parents out of state recently. I have heard of the aglae eliminator and preventer doing good jobs, but not sure how it effects the fish.

I am curious to see how the turning out the lights and covering the tank for days effects the algae and the fish as well... I have kept my lights off before but never fully darkened the tank.

Most algaes in the aquarium are photosynthetic meaning they need a light source to produce wahat they need to live. Kill the light, kill the algae. There are other factors that cause algae also (improper nutrients in the tank being the second cause) but no light = no algae.
